Question:
Will part number Y04073 work with a kayak that is 34 inches wide?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier part # Y04073 will carry a Kayak that is 34" wide as long as it does not weigh more than 80 lbs. If you are planning on carrying 2 kayaks they cannot exceed 110 lbs together. Most 34" wide kayaks like the fishing Hobie kayaks weigh more than 80 lbs so I recommend to check the weight. If your kayak fits the weight restrictions the JayLow is a great option.
If your Kayak is heavier, I recommend to use the Yakima BigCatch Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs - Saddle Style part # Y04091 which is designed for larger kayaks. It has a 150 lb weight capacity and features flexible over sized cradles to support the heavier kayak. This is a cradle style option that only carries 1 kayak because there is not a J-style carrier available to carry heavier kayaks.
It does require a minimum cross bar spread of 27" so you want to double check that. I have attached a review video for your reference. Both of these options come with the tie downs needed to secure the kayak.
