Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2017 Ford Expedition 4WD With or Without Adaptive Cruise Control

Published 04/09/2020

Question:

You have a great article about setting up a 2017 Ford Expedition for flat towing and the parts needed for the job.. Even the installation looks straight forward. You made reference to Unless you have adaptive cruise control in the base plate part# portion of the article. I dont think our Expedition has adaptive cruise control but, if it does, what would be needed or change if I want set up our 2017 Expedition 4WD limited for flat towing? You guys are the best! Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.. Thanks...

The only difference between flat towing a 2017 Ford Expedition 4WD with adaptive cruise control or without adaptive cruise control is the base plates that fit. If you do NOT have adaptive cruise control you can use Roadmaster base plates. If you DO have adaptive cruise control, base plates are not available from that manufacturer.

Due to that, and to make it much easier, I recommend the Demco Classic Base Plate Kit # DM9518296 because it is a high-quality base plate that will fit a 2017 Ford Expedition 4WD with OR without adaptive cruise control. This will require a compatible tow bar, and I'll make a list of that, plus all the parts I recommend for flat towing your 2017 Ford Expedition.

- Base Plate Kit: Demco Classic Base Plate Kit # DM9518296
- Tow Bar: Demco Dominator Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511008
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Supplemental Braking System: Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
OR
- For a motorhome with air brakes: Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motorhomes with Air Brakes # SM99243
- Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400

Additionally, I have added links to instruction manuals, video reviews and installations for you to take a look at.
