Best Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Options for 2019 GMC Sierra 2500 With Factory 5th Wheel Puck System

I have a 2019 GMC 2500HD with the Denali package, standard 6 foot bed, and factory pucks. I am new to 5th wheel trailering and have tried to do research on what type of hitch I need to get. Most of the videos I have seen and articles Ive read say that I need a slide system because of the size bed and/or I need to remove the tailgate while towing. I would rather not have to remove the tailgate if possible. Can you help with what type of hitch or hitches would work for me? Thank you.

Happy to help and let's start with the hitch; since you have a standard bed (also called short bed) on your 2019 GMC Sierra 2500 you will need a sliding 5th wheel hitch. The reason for that is simply turning radius - there is less room on short beds for the trailer to maneuver when you are making sharp turns, and what winds up happening is the trailer will crash into the cab of truck. A sliding hitch essentially moves the trailer further away from the cab, so you can make tighter turns without damaging your truck.
As for the hitch, the two best options for your 2019 GMC Sierra 2500 with the factory pucks are:
- B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch with Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3770
or
- Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider # DM8550034 with Rail Adapter for Chevy/GMC OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package # DM6194
These are the best options, and of the two the simplest to use is the Demco Hijacker because it does not require you to leave your cab to engage the slide, it does so on its own as you are turning. The Companion is outstanding, and is very highly regarded, although for someone new to fifth wheel towing and sliding hitches in particular, I do recommend the Hijacker.
