Is 2016 Toyota 4Runner Pre Wired for a Brake Controller

Updated 06/26/2024 | Published 03/17/2020

Question:

Does a 2016 4Runner have a factory attachment point for a brake controller. My vehicle has the trailer tow package with both the 7 and 4 way

If it has the factory 7-way trailer connector, your 4Runner will indeed be pre-wired at the factory for a brake controller. The Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160 you'd looked at is an excellent brake controller that would work very well for you. You'll also need the # 3041-P brake controller wiring adapter, which would plug into the factory connector as shown in the installation video I've linked for you.

THE FACTORY HARNESS PLUG HAS BEEN CUT OFF. WHAT WIRES GO TO AN UNIVERSAL HARNESS ON A TEKONSHA 90160?

@Bob The black wire goes to 12V power, the white to ground, the red to the cold side of the brake stop lamp circuit and the blue wire carries the output voltage from the controller back to the 7-way to the trailer. Hope that helps!
