Question:
How is the adapter secured to the fith wheel on the trailer?

Expert Reply:
The adapter base has a threaded collar on the top that you need to remove and slide over the king pin up against the king plate of your fifth wheel. While holding the threaded collar in place, you take both pieces of the split collar and put them in the slot of the king pin and drop the threaded collar around the split collar. The split collar pieces are tapered so the threaded collar will stay on. Then you spin the adapter base on the threaded collar. The included spanner wrench (the included tool that looks like a hook) helps you tighten the adapter base. It will get closer to the king plate and will pull the threaded collar further down onto the tapered split collar for a secure fit. From there, the adapter base needs to be secured to the king plate with the included hardware (which requires drilling into the king plate) or tack weld. If you have an enclosed pin box and can't get access to the plate from the top, you will need to go the weld route.
Keep in mind this Ranch Hitch does not include safety chains so you will need to get some of those if you do not already have any and you can do that with part # RP49151
