Is It Okay to Open Liftgate of Mazda CX-9 With Trunk Mount Bike Rack Installed

Im looking for a trunk mount hike rack for my mazda CX9 and Im wondering once it is installed can I open to trunk?

The Yakima # Y02634 FullBack would be a great choice for your 2019 Mazda CX-9, the rack can accommodate 2 bikes weighing up to 35 lbs apiece. The rack features anti sway cradles that hold the bikes tightly and prevent them from swinging back and forth and hitting each other or the vehicle. The feet of the rack are heavily padded to help prevent scratching the vehicle's finish.

The rear hatch or truck should NEVER be opened with this or any other trunk bike rack attached. The struts that hold up the rear liftgate are rated for the weight of the door, and little else. The danger is that the extra weight could cause the liftgate to unexpectedly close which could cause injury. The extra weight can also cause damage when the liftgate is being closed. Yakima specifically mentions this in the installation instructions.
