Do the Jaws of The B&W Companion Automatically Open and Shut When Hooking Up

The B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitches like part # BWRVK3305 For the 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty with OEM prep package does not automatically auto lock when hooking up your trailer. When you are hooking up the jaws will open but you will need to use the cam action handle to close the jaws and pin to lock it. However, B&W is known for their 1" thick double jaw design that provides complete contact with the king pin. Since the jaws have very little tolerance you will not experience the chucking and rattling like with other brands.

Your next best option that does have the spring loaded handle for easy hookup is the Demco Hijacker Premier Series Double Pivot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # DM6076P-21K with Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Ford OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package part # DM6175 which does have the automatic close jaws. However you will still need a pin to lock the handle. The Demco jaw features a 360 degree wrap around jaw that eliminates rattling as well. Please keep in mind the adapter adds 2" of height to your setup.
