Short Trailer Jack Recommendation for a 7000 lb A-frame Horse Trailer for Tailgate Clearance

Updated 11/25/2025 | Published 05/29/2012

Question:

Im looking for a shorter trailer jack for a small horse trailer. My current one fits an A-frame and measures 15.5inch from the bracket to the top. I dont know exactly the weight rating, but the GVWR of the trailer is 7000 lbs. Ill be pulling the trailer with the tailgate down to fit a truck camper on, and the top of the trailer jack is the only spot that could hit when backing up in a tight spot.

I went out to my warehouse a pulled a few different jacks that I think will work for you. The Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack, # BD1550101344, measures 14-1/2 inches from the bracket to the top of the jack, but you will lose an inch of lift with a 13 inch lift. You do, however, gain an increase in weight capacity at 3,000 lbs with this jack.

Our best option may be the Pro Series Round, A-Frame Jack, # PSRV20000103. This jack measures only 13 inches from the mounting bracket to the top of the jack and has a 14 inch lift with a 2,000 lb weight capacity.

I have attached links to each of these products for you to check out.

John, Can you also supply the measurements from the mounting bracket to the ground? I have a 10,000lb 8.5x20 enclosed cargo trailer. The trailer is rather low to the ground and the foot of the jack will hit the ground pulling out of some gas stations. I need to locate a jack where the mounting service to the ground is quite short. Please advise, Adrian

@AdrianV the A-frame jack with the best ground clearance is the Ultimate Trailer Jack part # 322-RDJ-2k Which actually lets you select how much of the jack's outer tube fits down below the mounting plate. So it can require basically zero ground clearance if that's what would work best for you. I think this would be your best option but let me know if you have a specific jack you'd like dimensions of.
