Question:
Can you measure how long the unit is. Inches ?? My plug is angled downward as some others have mentioned and I want to estimate how close it will bring the wires to the ground vs. the autowbrake alternative. I want to purchase one of these two units. Install on a 2012 VW Touareg.

I went out to the warehouse and measured the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 2 Axles - Proportional part # C51180. I have attached a diagram of the measurements for your reference. If you have the space I recommend to use the Curt Echo. It will stick down about 4-1/2" from your 7-Way plug. It can be used in any orientation, I have added a photo for your reference. The Curt Echo is the most convenient brake controller option we have because it requires virtually no wiring if you already have an active 12V circuit on your 7-Way. The brake settings can be operated via your smart phone.
The Autowbrake Electric Brake Controller part # 3430001 is still a good option but it mounts to the trailer side and needs to be wired to the junction box of your trailer so the initial install is a bit more time consuming compared to the minutes it takes to setup the Echo.
