How To Tell If a 2020 GMC Terrain Has the Factory Tow Package for Trailer Wiring

I need a trailer wiring harness for my 2020 GMC Terrain but not sure if I have the factory tow package or not. How do I tell ?

In order to determine if a 2020 GMC Terrain has the factory tow package you will need to take a look in the rear fuse box on the driver side of the vehicle. In the fuse box there will be two locations you need to check, K2 and K3 which are for the trailer lights. These slots should be empty but what we are looking for is silver terminals inside each of the holes for the prongs on the relay. If there are silver terminals then you have the factory tow package but if not then you do not have the factory tow package. If you are not sure about the silver terminals then check to see if wires are coming from the back of the K2 and K3 locations. If wires are present then you have the factory tow package but if not then you don't have the factory tow package.

Your Video on the install says the opposite .. If the back terminals are empty and no pins then and the front terminal is filled ...you have the tow kit. Which is it?

Conner's description above is correct. With that being said, you can also call your local GM dealer with your VIN and they can tell you for certain whether or not your vehicle is equipped with the tow package.

@ChrisR foillow up fyi Got the 118285 kit ....My 20 SLE Terrain has no pins in the 1 or 2 position. It DOES have the plug in adapter behind the Bumper. Plugged in the adapter and tossed the relays as not needed. the 4 pin works fine. the written instructions RE the pins and relays needed are incorrect ! Evidently according to the GMC tech GM is wiring all to accept the plug in adapter and deleted the relay locations as not needed. Anyone purchasing the more expensive "wire it" kit will be disappointed. The 118285 should work fine and in fact includes relays that are not needed ...a waste of additional $

@WilliamJ same on my 2019 Terrain, no pins in the 1 or 2 position but have the plug behind the bumper. I plugged in the wiring harness but I didn't get any power to my test prob. will look at it a little further. Hopefully, I do not have to buy the other adapter.

do i have to install a aftermarket transmission cooler on a 2020 terrain 2.0tb to pull a pop up camper with weight of 1500lbs or will it be ok without it. not going long distances maybe 35-40miles several times. car does not have tow pkg on it

It certainly wouldn't hurt to add a supplemental cooler but for a small pop up camper being towed shorter distances it's not necessarily vital. The Terrain has enough capacity to pull something like that without too much effort.
