Tire Chain Recommendation and Usage Guidelines for 2018 Acura MDX

Published 12/15/2019

Question:

I see info on your website for the 2017 Acura MDX, but not the 2018. What cable would you recommend for the 2018 Acura MDX with tire size 245/50-R20? I cant find any info about snow chains or cables in my Acura owners manual for the 2018. If you know that Acura says its Ok to use cables and that they are still recommending putting them on the front tires, please let me know. Thank you.

I was able to find a copy of your owner's manual and locate the information on snow chains for your 2018 Acura MDX (for reference, the information I found was on page 610 and can be seen in the accompanying photo). It looks like you are correct in that their recommendation is for chains to be placed on the front tires and if you do want/need to use chains you'll want to use chains that are Class S compatible because of the limited clearance in the wheel wells.

For this reason I recommend using something like the Konig Self-Tensioning, Low-Pro Snow Tire Chains # TH04115255 which are extremely easy to install, automatically tension themselves and provide you with the low clearance you need on your tire chains to avoid damaging any of the suspension or braking components near your tires.

The Titan Chains # TC3010 you were looking at will also work fine, but on top of the dramatically easier installation on the Konig chains, the diamond pattern of the Konig chains is going to provide you with much better traction for steering, braking and accelerating in the deepest of snow. On top of the superior functionality, the Konig chains come with a 5 year warranty compared to the 30 day warranty on the Titan # TC3010.
