Recommended Roof Rack for 2020 Ford Flex with No Side Rails

Updated 02/14/2025 | Published 12/04/2019

Question:

I have a rooftop cargo box that I used on my old Nissan Pathfinder that I'd like to be able to use on my 2020 Ford Flex. It doesn't have any of the side rails on it. Is there a roof rack that I can install that will allow me to use my old box on my new car?

While your 2020 Ford Flex may not have the raised side rails to mount a roof rack, I have the perfect solution for you to carry your cargo box.

I recommend using the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA150B-2 with the Rhino Rack 2500 Series Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRRLKVA and Custom DK Fit Kit for 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack Legs - Naked Roof # DK188; this kit clamps into the door jams on your 2020 Ford Flex and will provide you with a roof rack solution that looks just as good as the factory solution-if not better! These crossbars install 31-1/2" apart from each other (center of front bar to center of back bar) which will allow you to fit almost all cargo boxes that are able to be mounted on aero cross bars.

Hi! I see you spec'd that this product installs 31-1/2" apart, but there seems to be considerable space to move them front and backwards on the Ford Flex. Can they be installed farther apart than 31-1/2"? I carry drywall and lumber and things that won't work with only 31-1/2", but could work if they were farther apart. Thanks!

@SteveH Hello Steve. I am very sorry for the delay in the answer. I have reached out to Rhino Rack to see if this is possible, and they have yet to get back to me. How the pads and clamps are designed, sometimes they will only fit in one specific place. I am going to reach out to them again today, hopefully someone will answer me. I just need to confirm with them what the bar max spread is to ensure proper use so it does not void your warranty. I will let you know as soon as I find out.
