Question:
Hello. Thinking about the EcoHitch trailer hitch for my 2020 Tesla Model 3 but a little concerned about the install process. I looked through the instructions and it does require some good cutting. Is there a risk of the frame or other steel components then being exposed after the hitch is installed?

That is a great question. Installing the EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Receiver # EH84GR does indeed require that a 3-1/2" or 4" oval be cut on the underbody trim to allow clearance for the 2" drop-down receiver on 2018 models and older. The 2019 models and newer have a cut out already so no trimming is necessary. Since the drop-down receiver can actually be removed when you aren't towing, I definitely see your concern about this opening a door for the elements to creep in and potentially cause rust issues over time with the frame.
Luckily EcoHitch has already thought of this, as they have the Undercover Access Hole Cover # 306-XA2002 available, which I definitely recommend adding to this setup. This is specifically designed to slide into the hitch when the receiver is removed to cover up that opening and also maintain a clean factory look on the vehicle. However, this is not needed on all models. It is recommended that you look at your particular set-up once it is installed before you order this.
I have attached a short video demonstration that you can check out as well.
