What Might Cause Dexter Disc Brake Pads to Wear Out Quicker

Published 10/31/2019

Question:

Hi, I would like to know what the reasons might be that the BP04-395 pad brakes I used to replace the originals on my Dexter axles on my PJ trailer got worn much faster. The pads were snug and did not drag on the discs. Thanks

Typically if a set of brake pads wears out quicker than anticipated it's due to not using the lube for the pads. The disc brake pad kit part # BP04-395 comes with a lube that you'd put on the pads which prevents noise and also allows them to last longer. How do the rotors look?

Other factors might be if the trailer is now carrying more weight than usual or the brake controller isn't set properly which might cause the brakes to drag a bit more and wear out.
