Question:

I currently have very worn 4 pack 25 1/8” leaf springs for a 3500# dual axle trailer. Can I increase to a 5 pack or heavier load capacity spring with the same eye to eye distance?

Yes, this could be caused by worn out leaf springs on your trailer. Sometimes you'll see this caused by using shackles that are too long, but in this case it's probably safe to assume that this is being caused by worn out leaf springs.

If you need help finding replacement springs, just let me know the length of your current springs and I can make a recommendation for your 3500-lb axles. To measure your springs, measure from the center of one eye to the center of the other.

For 25-1/8" double eye leaf springs I recommend going with the # e54SR for 3500-lb axles. I don't recommend going up to the 6000-lb in this case because the large gap in strength is really going to stiffen up the suspension on your trailer and cause it to bounce around a good deal, as opposed to the properly rated springs that will offer more cushion; we also don't carry a 5 leaf spring in that size and those too would just stiffen up the ride quality. With a stiffer suspension than you really need, it's potentially going to cause other problems on your trailer down the road. If you really want to beef up the suspension on your trailer I recommend adding the Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement # TTRA1702. This is going to help stabilize and level the trailer much more efficiently than going with a higher capacity spring. These springs work independently side to side to help compensate for off-center loads and will also give you a little added ground clearance at the same time.
