Can Ducted and Non-Ducted AC Units be Installed on the Same RV Together

Updated 03/17/2025 | Published 08/20/2019

Question:

Thinking of putting a non ducked AC unit over bedroom in RV. AC unit in main area is ducked. Ive heard ducked and non-ducked will not co-exist. Is this true. Maybe something to do with condensation Im not sure.

Hey Anthony, whoever you heard that from was incorrect, although what I think they're trying to say is that the ducted system and non-ducted system won't work off of each other (like together off the same thermostat) - and in that case it's true.

What you can do is install the 13,500 Btu Advent Air Low Profile RV AC Kit # ASA49YR over your bedroom to give you the best climate control. This does come with it's own manual control as well as a heat strip so it will even help knock out some of the cold on a chilly morning.

To install this you will need to cut a 14x14 hole in your roof and make sure the proper bracing is there to support the weight, so if you haven't done something like this before, I recommend asking someone with experience to help you out.

Yes ducted and non ducted will work off the thermostat. Has to be the same brand and compatible. Depending on the brand you choose they sometimes will work with an adapter. We have this in our toyhauler with dometic thermostat rus all 3 units.
