Does 5-Way need to be Installed on 16 Ram Pickup to Activate Electric Lockout on Actuator

Question:

I have 099-175-20 on my ezloader boat trailer. It was wired with 4 pin and a 7 pin adapter. This worked fine within my 2002 Chevy Avalanche. I am now using this with a 16 Ram that has 7 pin. When I go in reverse, the brake is activated. I am assuming that I was not utilizing the electric reverse brake feature with 4 pins previously and now my Ram is attempting to? Should I rewire with a five pin for the Ram? Thanks,

You do need at least a 5-Way connector like what you find with adapter # 20036 (designed for this type of use) so that the reverse lockout function is activated on your Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout # T47457207K. If you only had a 4-Way on your Chevy Avalanche then I am a little confused as to why you were able to back up your trailer but regardless, you need to connect the actuator to the reverse light function on your 2016 Ram pickup so that you can back your trailer up.
