Can Karavan Single Axle Boat Trailer Use Tire Size 175/80R13 in Load Range D

Updated 07/16/2019 | Published 07/15/2019

Question:

I have a 2011 Karavan single axle boat trailer for my Bayliner 180. The Trailers label states a GVWR 2923. The OEM Tire and Load label on the trailer specifies an ST185/80D13C tire and a max load of 2450LBS. Will a ST175/80R13 LRD be sufficient? Will the size difference cause any problems?

As long as the tire you end up using has the capacity for the weight of the trailer when it's loaded you are totally fine. Size difference would not be a problem. So if your trailer will weigh up to 2,923 lbs a Load Range D trailer tire in the size of 175/80R13 like the part # AM10210 would work well as it has a capacity of 1,650 lb per tire which would put you at a total capacity of 3,300 lb total tire capacity.
