Updated 07/16/2019 | Published 07/14/2019

Question:

I want to add an air condition unit to my trailer to keep my music instruments in good condition. I want one that can run simotanuisly 24/7. Or will I be better purchasing a small widow unit and customizing it.

We do offer rooftop air conditioner units for trailers that will both help control the interior temperature inside your 7 x 12-foot enclosed trailer and help control the amount of humidity to protect your musical instruments.

The most important thing to consider up front is how much power the unit will need to operate. All air conditioners use a lot of power. Even our smallest 13,500-BTU model # AT15032-22 will need a 115-volt AC-power circuit capable of delivering 11-amps. At startup it will draw almost 3800-watts of power; once running it will still use 1265-watts. To power a unit like this you would need a generator like # 333-0005 or a power inverter like # 34280178 that can take in 12V power from a bank of batteries and output 115-volt AC power.

In terms of the overall cost for installing an air conditioner you might be better off with a small high-efficiency household window unit, as you mentioned. However, one of these will still need a 115-volt AC power source.

We also have a range of roof vents like # MA00-07500K, with or without powered fans, that can move quite a lot of air, but these will not reduce humidity as an air conditioner can.
