According to my research, the Dakota 4WD and 2WD models with manual transmissions are flat towable as-is. The 2WD auto transmission models require a drive shaft coupling.
You will need a tow bar and a base plate kit. The Demco Commander II tow bar, part # DM9511012, is our most popular Demco tow bar. You will also need the vehicle-specific Demco base plate kit, part # DM9518037 if your truck has a transmission cooler or part # DM9517093 if it doesn't. In addition to the tow bar and base plates, you will need a system to join the tail lights of the motorhome to the tail lights of the towed vehicle. In many states, you will need a supplemental braking system.
The easiest lighting system to use is the Roadmaster Bulb and Socket Kit, part # RM-155. This kit is easy to install, an additional bulb passes through a hole drilled in the rear of each tail light assembly. Using this kit also allows the wiring of the RV to remain completely independent of the towed vehicle.
A supplemental braking system like the Stay-IN-Play DUO, part # SM99251, is required by law in the US. The DUO is one of the easiest systems to use after the initial install. You also need a relay, part # RM-88400 to keep the truck's lights from overriding the RV's.
Although my research indicates that the 2002 Dakota is capable of being flat towed subject to the above mentioned drive shaft coupling, I would recommend consulting your owners manual or Dodge for any procedures, recommendations or prohibitions regarding flat towing the vehicle.
