If your trailer has standard electric brakes then the first thing we are going to need to do is test the brake controller. In order to test a brake controller you will first need to turn the power settings up to max, usually with a knob or buttons on the exterior of the unit. Once you have power at the max settings have a friend apply the manual override which is usually a bar or button on the exterior of the unit and then test the 1 o'clock pin on the 7-way. If you get 12 volts then you are good to go. If not you need to check your wiring.
Next, I recommend you inspect the brake output wire on the trailer as well as inspecting the trailer connector. If you have access to a different truck/trailer you can narrow down what side the issue is occurring on.
