Can Trailer Breakaway Kit Battery Charger be Used With Battery on Trailer

Question:

To avoid having to buy an ATV type battery yearly would I be able to run the brake breakaway switch from the main trailer battery? I have a solar system on the roof of the trailer that maintains the main battery in charged state so if I could use this or the solar system to keep the breakaway battery charged I would prefer this. Can I do this and if so do I need any parts like the part 2011 to with into this system? To ease my wiring job on your 20011 could I attach the red wire to the Switch battery positive and the blue to the Switch battery negative?

Yes, you can use the Trailer Breakaway Kit Battery Charger # 20011 from the main trailer battery. You will not want to attach the red wire to the switch battery positive and blue to the negative. To install, what you need to do is connect the black wire on the charger to the positive side of your trailer's 12 volt battery that you mentioned is kept in a charged state by the solar panel. The red wire on this charger will connect to the battery in the breakaway kit and the blue wire is connected to the breakaway switch.
