How To Increase Cab Clearance When Towing With B and W Gooseneck Hitch In Ford F-150 5-1/2 ft Bed

Updated 07/11/2019 | Published 07/10/2019

Question:

I have a 98 F-150 with a cab and half. I installed the BandW hide a ball hitch as per the instructions. When I turn sharply if Im not careful the trailer will hit the truck cab. Is there some kind of an extension that I could use to let my trailer ride back further in the bed?

It sounds like you are using B and W Gooseneck Hitch part # BWGNRK1197 on your 1998 F-150 with 6-1/2 ft bed with the standard ball that came with the hitch. I recommend to use the 4" offset ball to gain clearance while making sharp turns part # BWGNXA4085. This will give you an addition 4" of clearance that will help when turning.

If 4 inches isn't enough then I recommend an offset coupler for the gooseneck trailer, # BWTEXA4200. It offers 10 inches of offset for greater clearance. I have attached a video for your reference.
