Replacing 5-Leaf Spring with 1-Leaf Double-Eye Spring on Boat Trailer with Tandem 6,000-lb Axles
Updated 02/06/2012 | Published 02/01/2012 >
Question:
I have a tandem axle boat trailer with 6000# axles. The trailer is used in saltwater so corrosion is a constant issue. My current springs are 5-leaf double-eye springs and one of them recently broke. Are the single leaf springs a suitable replacement? They seem like they would be much better on corrosion since the salt cant get in between all the stacked leafs of traditional designed leaf springs.

The single leaf spring you referenced, part # e46SR, would work fine as a replacement for the 5-leaf springs you currently have. You are correct in stating that corrosion would be less of an issue with this particular spring.
Make sure to replace the leaf springs in pairs by axle.
