Does the Backup Camera Mount On a Trailer Need Additional Support for Installation

Question:

I have a 21foot Coleman travel trailer with aluminum siding panels and Im in the process of mounting a rear view backup camera towards the top center of the back exterior wall. I am concerned that sheet metal screws 2-6 screws and silicon sealant will not be enough to secure the camera perpendicularly on the wall. I am concerned about road vibration loosening the mechanical and chemical connections over time and ultimately the camera falling off. Should I be searching for a stud or blocking behind the siding to secure the camera too? If so how do you that, stud finders dont work well on aluminum siding? The camera I purchased isnt a feather but it also isnt a brick. I would estimate in the camera weights about same as a 12oz bottle of water.

I have never personally heard of a rear view camera on a trailer falling off that was properly secured before due to road vibrations. That said, you shouldn't need any additional support or backing plates as the aluminum siding should hold just fine. If you like, you can replace the screws with bolts and then use nyloc nuts to hold them tight but I again don't really even think this will be necessary. If you follow the manufactures installation instructions for the camera system you should not need to worry about any additional support or backing needed for the camera mount. The Rear View Safety Backup Camera System part # RVS-770614 is a great option.
