Recommended Crossbars for 2017 Subaru Forester and Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier

I have seen 65 inch cross bars suggested but dealership says 58”. Which is right?

The Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier and Lift Assist with Tie-Downs - Side Loading # TH898 requires crossbars that extend 4-8 inches past the towers to give you at least the 4 inches clearance needed on the side of your vehicle for the Hullavator lift system to not make contact with your mirrors or any other part of your vehicle.
Thule recommends using 47 inch bars for your vehicle when not using the system that requires that additional length, so I suggest using the 60 inch WingBar # TH711520 because the next length size is 53 inches which isn't quite long enough.
Most people with kayak carriers prefer longer crossbars even if they don't have the Hullavator to protect their vehicle as their arms are tired after paddling all day so I think you will be very happy with the 60 inch bars on your 2017 Forester.
