Can E-Z Flex Suspension System Replace Trailer With Taller Equalizer

Updated 05/07/2019 | Published 05/06/2019

Question:

I recently order Dexter Equalizer kit # K71-652-00. My axles are rated for 5200 lbs and my spacing between is 5 5/8 . After I installed them and lowered the camper back down to the ground it lowered the trailer ride height about a 1.5 inches. Looks unsafe and good bump and will bottom out. When I put the factory equalizer back in because now this kit is a paper weight because I put grease through them I notice that one measurement was off . The top center hole to bottom was off. Factory was 5 inches and dexter was 3inches. Most of what I read here from etrailer and product description is that 5 5/8 is what mattered. My question is are these worth the money and improve the ride as I will have to buy them again? Also do you sell any products comparable and that wont lower my ride height.

The E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Suspension System # K71-652-00 are absolutely an upgrade in terms of ride, they absorb shock in a way that standard equalizers are simply incapable of doing though it is designed to specifically replace Equalizer # TREQ104, which is 2 inches tall and your equalizers are clearly taller. If you did want to use this kit you would need weld on a taller center hanger such as the Center Hanger for Double-Eye Springs - 5-7/16" Tall # 115919 to compensate for the shorter equalizers of the E-X Flex.

Since there is not an equalizer upgrade kit designed for hangers as tall as yours you could improve your ride with leaf spring enhancement, the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers # RM-2460. This will fit on a 3" diameter axle - which is typical for 5,200 lb axles - and have a compressed length of 11-1/2" and extended length of 17-1/2". This system will heavily reduce the amount of bounce in your trailer and your overall towing experience will be much more comfortable.

The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers # RM-2460 are easy to install and you just replace your trailer's current U-bolt tie plates.

Of the two choices - the E-Z Flex along with having to weld on a new hanger - or the Comfort Ride, I absolutely recommend the Comfort Ride for you. I have added a link to a video review as well as a link to the installation instructions for you to take a closer look at.
