Question:
Hello I am buying a 16 ft travel trailer and I was told I cannot use a regular brake controller mounted on the left side on the knee bolster by the E Brake as there is a air bag down in that area. I was told I need a RF brake controller as it is a hand unit that plugs into the cigarette lighter and can be mounted any where. So my question is why can I not mount the wired brake controller in a different area. Is this correct or am I being sold a very expensive piece of hardware. Thank you 2013 Grand Caravan SXT 3.6L

For your 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan, the brake controller mounting location can change as long as the orientation of the unit is still correct. It doesn't need to be mounted in that knee location.
If you want a different style controller there are several options. You can use a wireless controller like the Curt Echo # C51180 or you can use a wired unit that has a different style connection to your dash that won't interfere with that air bag. You can use the Curt Spectrum # C51170 or the Redarc Tow Pro Elite # 331-EBRH-ACCV2 which is the most popular option for your vehicle as it can be mounted anywhere there is a filler in your dash or console or wherever else you desire.
I've attached some videos to assist with these other options.
