We bought the 2 bike carrier with 2 inch hitch. About 4 times a year we need to carry all 4 bikes on the back so we can put camping gear in a rocket box on top of our subaru. Is it possible to switch between the 2 and 4 bike version w/out going crazy? The 4 bike rack is overkill for our everyday bike hauling needs.

You can easily turn your Kuat NV 2.0 2-bike rack into a 4-bike rack a few times a year when you go camping; all you need to do is get the 2-bike add-on and it is very easily installed or removed. If you take a look at the video I linked and go to about the 1:30 mark you can see the add-on being installed.
To make your Kuat NV 2.0 a 4-bike rack you simply need to match it with the appropriate add-on. I will list the 2-bike racks and the appropriate add-on for it:
