It sounds like you might be trying to add a 4-way to your vehicle like the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit part # 119178KIT so you can install a tailgate light bar like the Rampage SuperBrite LED Tailgate Light Bar part # RA960134.
If that is the case then we first need to find out whether your vehicle has separate or combined lighting circuits as the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit part # 119178KIT will only work for you if your vehicle uses separate lighting. If it does which just simply means that the brake and turn signal circuits are on different wires/bulbs then the red wire within the above harness will actually go to the brake light circuit, not the running light circuit. The green wire will go to the right turn circuit, the yellow wire to the left turn circuit, the brown wire to the running lights. and then the white wire to a ground (see photo). If your tailgate light bar does not use all these circuits that is fine, you can choose not to connect them all but the connections will still be as follows regardless.
If you instead have combined lighting in which the stop/turn signal cricuts are on the same wire/bulb then you will need to use the 4-Pole Hardwire Kit with Circuit Tester part # 18252 instead. The green wire from this harness gets spliced into the right stop/turn circuit, the yellow wire into the left stop/turn circuit, the brown wire to the running light circuit, and the white wire to a ground.
