Should a Transmission Cooler Be Used in Very Cold Climates on a 2012 Buick Enclave
Published 12/21/2011 >
Question:
would a transmission cooler cool the oil to much in cold weather when not pulling my travel trailer? also do you know af anybody pulling a 4700lb tt with an enclave? The enclave drives better than the 1999 chevy taho that pulled this trailer with for 12years. I think it is because of less rear overhang .

The common thought on transmission fluid is that it can not be kept cool enough. With that being said, if you are in an area that sees very cold winters your best bet will be to let your car run for a few minutes to not only warm the motor up but also the transmission fluid.
As long as you run the fluid from your factory cooler to the Derale Cooler # D13402 the engine coolant will act to warm up the transmission fluid as it runs through your radiator which will begin to warm up with the engine. And since the car will not be moving, the aftermarket cooler will not be actively cooling the transmission fluid allowing the fluid to warm up.
As far as towing a 4,700 lb trailer with your 2012 Buick Enclave you will need to consult the owners of your vehicle to determine what the towing capacities are for your vehicle. As long as the gross trailer weight of your trailer fully loaded is less than the capacities for your vehicle you should be fine. You are on the right track getting a transmission cooler though. That is an essential item for a vehicle when you are planning on towing a trailer.
I attached an FAQ article on transmission coolers for you to check out also.
