Question:
locked yakima space cadet, keys are lost Do I need to call a locksmith to drill out the old lock? Or is this something I can do myself to save on cost?

If your Yakima SpaceCadet Cargo Box is locked and you don't remember the key number that was used then your best option is indeed to have a locksmith come and try to open the lock. You can certainly try to drill the lock core out yourself but it's likely that this would cause damage to the box or locking mechanism.
Once the box is unlocked you can either replace the lock core itself with the Yakima Same Key System # Y07202 that includes new keys or if you're able to remove the core without damaging anything then the key number that works with it will be printed on its side. You can then use this information to order replacement keys. For example if you found A146 printed on the side of the lock core you would need the Replacement Key # Y8772-A146.
I have attached a link that will take you to our selection of replacement Yakima keys that you can look through.
