What is Purpose of Spring Clip that Comes with Solera Slide Topper

Question:

I just opened my new slide topper getting ready to install. Page 4 , line 16 says to relieve tension and remove the spring clip. There is no spring clip on this topper and no tension on the roller. Please advise.

According to my contact at Solera the spring clip on the slide topper is only for the installation and shipping. To release the tension on the slide topper and/or reset the tension on the fabric, you will need that or something similar to use. I have attached a photo of what the spring clip a.k.a. cotter pin for reference.

At the time of installation the awning roller should be wound fourteen rotations to put sufficient tension on the springs. This spring tension is what avoids the need for a solution such as an anti-billowing device.
