Universal Magnaflow Muffler Recommendation for a 2001 Hyundai Elantra
Updated 12/13/2011 | Published 12/12/2011 >
Question:
What do you base your muffler fits on? I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS DOHC 2.0 This muffler would fit fine on my car. I have plenty of room for this particular muffler yet you dont have my hyundai as an available model for your mufflers. Is this muffler not a universal? Also, I am curious how loud this muffler is. I dont want a loud rice rocket sound. Would the 18 in body do much better for sound than the 14 in?

We base our fits for mufflers on what the muffler manufacturer lists as confirmed fits. The MagnaFlow Stainless Steel Universal Muffler # MF10416 is a universal fit muffler and because of that it does not have any specific fits. There is a chance it would work on your 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS, but that is something you would need to determine based on the specs of this product that are listed on the product page.
This muffler will be pretty loud since it is a straight through design. It would be definitely louder than stock, but it should be quieter than a 14 inch muffler of similar design. It should not be obnoxiously loud like you said you are not interested in, but it should be rather loud.
Under wide open throttle this muffler should get rather loud, but at partial throttle and idle it should only be a little bit louder than the stock muffler. I have a similar straight-through Magnaflow muffler on my vehicle and that is how it performs.
