I have a Stowmaster 5000 tow bar that I want to use on my 1980 cj5 jeep. Are these the right brackets?

I spoke with my contact at Demco regarding the Classic Base Plate Kit # DM9518112 that you referenced and he said that unfortunately these will not attach to the Roadmaster Stowmaster 5000 Tow Bar and there is not an adapter available that will allow you to do so.

It looks like this particular base plate kit is the only one available that is confirmed to fit your 1980 Jeep CJ-5 (as long as you have the standard factory bumper), so in order to flat tow the vehicle you will need to upgrade to a new, compatible tow bar.

For a similar car-mount tow bar to what you have that meets this requirement I recommend the Roadmaster Tracker # RM-020. This coupler-style tow bar features a 5,000 pound weight capacity. I have attached a short video review that you can check out as well. You'll need to use adapters # DM9523036 to go with the Demco base plate kit

For a premium option I really like the Demco Excali-Bar III # DM9511013 that features a non-binding design for a much easier hookup process and an adjustable head that eliminates the need for a high-low adapter in many cases. It has a robust 10,500 pound weight capacity and can be folded up and out of the way when not in use.
