Why Is The Stop Light Switch Needed On A 2012 Fiat 500

Question:

I am going to install the brake light switch kit on my 2012 Fiat 500. My RV is a 2016 class C motorhome Ford E450 with a 7 pin factory trailer plug. Am using a 6 pin plug on the Fiat. My question is can I use the trailer brake wire to get the brake signal to the front of the motorhome? And if yes where can I tie in to it, at the trailer brake controller connector usually the blue wire?

I am not entirely sure I understand what you are asking. The reason that you will need to install the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit part # RM-751455 on your 2012 Fiat 500 is because the stop light circuit goes dead while the vehicle is in tow. Since the stop light circuit goes dead while in tow there would be no way to signal the motorhome that the brakes in the vehicle are being applied by way of a supplemental braking system. Therefore, a stop light switch kit is needed. The power and or signal for this switch must be obtained from the toad, not the tow vehicle. The reason for this is because if there was an issue on the motorhome then you would not have any way of knowing what was going on in the toad.

I have attached the installation instructions of the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit for you as well as a video. I cannot recommend you do anything outside of what is outlined in these instructions. Please let me know if this does not answer your question.
