How can this bike rack be modified to accommodate a fat Tire bike? Thanks.

I do have an option for you but the Thule Big Mouth Roof Mounted Bike Rack part TH599XTR is not compatible with bikes that have fat tires and I cannot recommend you modify it in any way to work with such. Instead, I recommend using the Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack part # TH598004-FB which is currently the only rooftop frame mount bike rack we offer for bikes with fat tires up to 3" wide. The ProRide XT weighs around 10 lbs so it is easy to take on and off the vehicle. It also comes with a lifetime warranty.
