thank you but I am buying B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch tomorrow and selling my covert-a-ball one.

My contact at Convert a ball explained that this adapter is not compatible with Trail-Air's Rota-Flex pin box. This is due to the forward and rearward movement in this pin box like what you have found. Your setup is not safe unfortunately. You could replace the pin box or possibly get a gooseneck to fifth wheel rail kit adapter but I'd need to know what gooseneck hitch you have.
