Opening Tailgate When Power Lock Wont Work on Truck with Extang Tonneau Cover Installed

Question:

The problem is I have a Hard EXTANG 2.0 Tonneau cover on my bed so I have no access to my tailgate lock assembly from the inside of bed,

I spoke with my contact at Extang regarding your situation and he said that you have a couple possible options to gain access to the lock assembly inside your Canyon's truck bed.

You can first try removing one of the hinge caps on the outside of the tonneau cover and sliding the hinge far enough so that you can get your hand inside and pop the lock open. You might not be able to move the hinge far enough to do this but I recommend trying this first as it would allow you to open the tailgate without damaging anything on the cover.

Your other option is to simply cut the rear clamp on the cover with a hacksaw. This will definitely get you access to the bed and you can then just replace the clamp with a new one. If you have the Extang Solid Fold 2.0 the replacement tail clamp assembly is part # EX1035.
