The best trailer hitch for your 2005 Chevrolet Equinox AWD with the V6 engine is the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98865. The reason for this is because the ends of the crosstube are closed off which is greatly going to reduce the chance for rust when compared to the open ends of other hitches. The trailer hitch on a vehicle is generally subjected to much harsher conditions due to its location which is why I feel this is important. The other reason I like this trailer hitch is because it has a matte finish which will allow it to blend in with the vehicle more and not be as noticeable when compared to the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13591.

I have attached a photo of the hitch installed as well as a video on a similar one which will be the same process.
