Question:

I was looking at some previous answers about a hitch and bike rack for the 2006 scion xb, and had some questions. The hitch part #C11487 Why is it limited to only 2 bikes when bikes dont weigh 100 lbs. each? I need to be able to haul a minimum of 3 bikes.

The reason that you will be limited to a maximum of two bikes with Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11487 is because it is only class I rated. The maximum number of bikes that you can carry with a class I trailer hitch receiver is two, no matter their weight.

In order to carry three bikes on the back on your 2006 Scion xB you will need to use a trunk mounted bike rack like the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 3 Bike Rack part # HRF2-3. This option will not require any modifications to the vehicle and it is very easy to take on and off. The only downside is that you will be limited to 35 lbs per bike and the Hollywood Racks Bike Frame Adapter Bar part # HRBA-PRO will be needed if any of your bikes have an alternative frame.
