Torque for Installing Nuts of U-Bolt Kit # CE15283GA-8
Published 01/09/2019 >
Question:
I recently ordered some 1/2inch u-bolts and angle brackets for my boat trailer bunk boards. Do you know if these u-bolts are grade 5, and what the torque would be to tighten them to? Normally grade 5 would be around 57 ft lbs but grade 2 would be I think around 45 ft lbs. - Just dont want to overtighten them. Thanks.

The correct torque spec for trailer suspension u-bolts will depend on the the diameter of the bolt. You will want to use the following depending on bolt size:
1/2" bolts: 45 ft/lbs - 70 ft/lbs
9/16" bolts: 65 ft/lbs - 95 ft/lbs
5/8" bolts: 100 ft/lbs - 120 ft/lbs
3/4" bolts: 140 ft/lbs - 160 ft/lbs
Since the # CE15283GA-8 is a 1/2 inch diameter you'd want to go with 45-70 and you'd be good.
