Do Base Plate Dimension Differences Impact Flat Towing a 2014 Jeep Patriot Manual Transmission?

Question:

As I look at the Blue Ox baseplate and compare that to the Roadmaster base plate they have different height and width dimensions. The height is no problem as I can use hitches to get the proper height if needed. The width or distance between the attachment points of the toad vehicle to the tow bar is more interesting. My question is is there a min and max width between the tow bar attachments to the toad vehicle? and if so what is the range and what is the optimal if there is one.

For your 2014 Jeep Patriot manual transmission, the Blue Ox Base Plates Kit # BX1130 is a fit as is the Roadmaster EZ2 Base Plate Kit # 521441-1. It is true that these base plates are different based on height and width dimensions but they are both good options for your Jeep. The width or distance between the attachment points for a tow bar are different, but there is not a specific width that is too narrow or too wide for systems designed to work together. They will allow similar clearances for tracking behind your motorhome, so I recommend staying with one brand of base plate and tow bar and they will work together as designed and not have any binding issues. You are correct that using a high-low adapter will allow you to be within safe heights for your toad.

If you have a preference between these two options, let me know and I'll be happy to give you a complete system recommendation if you'd like. I've attached a couple articles to further assist.
