Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2018 BMW X5
Question:
Bike rack and trailer hitch recommendation for a 2018 BMW X5. I am specifically looking for something that lets me get in and out of my hatch area without having to take my bikes off of the bike rack. Thank you.

The trailer hitch that I recommend using to carry a bike rack with your 2018 BMW X5 is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13077 because it features the hidden crosstube design like the other trailer hitches (see attached picture) and also because it is compatible even if you have the M package.
Please note that Curt does recommend the use of a support strap like # 18050 when utilizing this trailer hitch with a bike rack.
Then for a bike rack I recommend the Yakima FullSwing # Y02465 because it allows you to carry up to 4 bikes weighing a total of 160 lbs and features a hinged arm so that you can gain unrestricted access to your rear cargo area with the bikes still loaded. Aside from the standard locks, folding arms, and anti-sway cradles, one of the highlights of this bike rack is the integrated anti-rattle SpeedKnob which helps to keep the bike rack from moving in the receiver while you are driving around.
If any of your bike frames don't have the horizontal top tube then the Adapter Bar # Y02531 will increase the ground clearance and allow the bike to ride level. I also recommend using the Softride Tie Downs # SR54FR to keep your front wheels from moving around.
