What Gauge of Wires Are Used in the Curt Universal 7-Way Extension 56080
Published 12/07/2018 >
Question:
Can you tell me the wiring sizes use in the Curt 56080? My plans, if wiring sizes are correct, is to use only the 7Way on vehicle and cable and to cut the other end for termination in vehicle. So far, my best alternative to this Curt 56080 is the Bargman 50-87-009 wire sizes known but the Bargman has large, long 6inch boot on back causing requirement for long standoff from vehicle dont like. I cant tell if the Bargman boot can be trimmed down.

The spoke with Curt about the Curt Universal 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 7-Way Extension part # C56080 and they informed me that the green (right turn/stop light), yellow (left turn/stop light), brown (running light), and purple (reverse light/lockout) wires are 14 gauge. The blue (brake output), black (12 volt power) and white (gound) wires are 12 gauge.
I am sure the boot on the back of the 7-Way Super Sealed Connector part # 50-87-009 could be trimmed down but you would be opening yourself up to electric issues so I cannot recommend this.
