Are Ladder or Diamond Style Chains Better for Deep Snow
Updated 12/07/2018 | Published 12/06/2018 >
Question:
I have an 03 2500HD Duramax with 285/75/16 BFG TA. 4WD. I’d like to access my mountain property year round. The road is paved but steep, snow is deep. Sometimes it’s plowed most often not. I may be pushing two feet of snow. What do you think? Buy a snowmobile or tire chains? Diamond or Ladder?

I am far from an expert on snowmobiles but one would have to think such a large truck with the correct tires and chains would be able to make it through up to 2' of snow assuming you have clearance on the vehicle. In regards to the type of tire chain to use, I recommend one with a diamond pattern over one with a ladder pattern. This is going to give you more constant traction in addition to not producing as rough of a ride. For your 285/75-16 tires, I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains part # TC2533.
The thing I like most about the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains is that the chains have colored coded sections which are drastically going to cut down on installation difficulty/time. The square links should provide excellent grip and stopping power on snow and ice.
I have attached a review/install video for you as well.
