Heavy Duty Locks For Enclosed Trailer

Updated 11/27/2018 | Published 11/26/2018

Question:

I recently bought Item # 295-000026. Examining the internal mechanism, it looks like it would be very easy for someone to pry out at the top of the latch with a bar sufficient to get the cam lever out. Very small piece of metal holding it in. Have you had any complaints about this? Ive had three break-ins of my Boy Scout trailer with the conventional hasp and replaced it with this one hoping it is more secure. They cut the lock twice. Got a better lock and they cut the hasp. We have very motivated thieves. Thinking of adding a in addition. Would I be able to bend the bar slightly to to get everything to connect? I know it is hardened steel. I considered the 720 hasp with the hinge to make everything match up better, but I think the thieves would rip it apart and it looks like it will only take small screws or bolts. I want to use 1/4 inch minimum.

We have not had any complaints of the locking mechanism on the Global Link Vise Lock part # 295-000026. The retention hook on the lock is made of a rather thick steel so it would take some effort to break loose. Unfortunately, if the thieves are motivated enough like you mentioned then there are few devices that would truly be able to hamped them if they were equipped with the correct tools. The more locks they see, the least likely they will be to break in but you may want to think of other forms of security such as cameras etc.

In order to bend the bar on the Master Lock, Contractor Grade, Single-Hinged Hasp part # 720DPF you would likely need some heat.
