Question:
I have a 04 chevy 2500 and a gooseneck trailer with hydraulic over electric brakes. Dexter actuator. The wiring on the trailer was all jacked up and i have been working on getting it all straightened out. Got all my lights and everything working right now i just need to figure out the brakes. I have the tekonsha P3 brake controler in my truck. Ordered and installed a new wiring harness from to vehicle plug in to splice box on trailer. When i talked to the dealership about running that specific trailer with my truck they told me i needed the HBA-10 controller module. So i installed that along with a 30 amp fuse i was missing in my trucks fuse box. I can get the brake actuator to work but only when i hook it to the 12volt outlet. So i know the motor works but obviously the brakes dont work when i need them too. So after doing more research in your QandA section i believe i figured out that my 04 with P3 aftermarket brake controller does not need the HBA-10 controller module? Is that correct? So once i remove that and figure out what wire to put where, which i believe i have figured out, than my P3 should make the brakes work?

Your Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 is directly compatible with your Dexter EOH brake actuator. You do not need the HydraStar EOH Actuator Adapter Module # HBA-CAM for a Dexter actuator (only for their HydraStar models and then only if you are not using a compatible aftermarket controller like the P3).
On your P3 you will use main menu screen to select the brake type of operation you need, in your case EOH operation (as opposed to electric brakes). Select and highlight hydraulic operation and confirm this operating mode. You can refer to the linked image taken from page 4 of the written instructions to see how this process will appear on the P3 screen.
The 4 wires on the P3 will connect as follows:
WHITE wire is ground
BLACK wire is 12V+ and connects to battery + terminal through a 30-amp breaker
BLUE wire runs to 7-way to provide controller output signal
RED wire connects to COLD side of the brake light switch to provide the triggering signal to the P3
You can see this wiring setup in the linked diagram and article.
