Will RhinoEXTREME RV Sewer Hose CAM39861 Benefit from Sun/UV Protection
Updated 10/29/2018 | Published 10/27/2018 >
Question:
Hello, Just had my first failure, after almost four years of service, of my RhinoFlex sewer hose. It had two small holes both in between the internal wires. My question is, I have almost twenty feet of hose stretched out from my motorhome to the sewer inlet and it is most all exposed to the direct sunlight down here in Mesa, Arizona. Did the heat from the sun weaken the material or did the UV from the sun weaken it - or both? Was thinking about a way to cover it but wanted your thoughts if it is even necessary..... Also, should I cut out the two bad spots and reattach the 90° fitting giving me a short extension? Thank you,

UV rays and extreme heat are tough on any materials, even ones made specifically for the outdoor environment. I would say that nearly four years of trouble-free service from your RhinoEXTREME RV sewer hose # CAM39861 is pretty good considering your severe environment. This is their heaviest-duty sewer hose.
My contact at Camco agreed that you must have taken good care of this item since it lasted for almost 4 years in the Arizona desert. My contact also agreed that anything you can do to block or reduce the sun exposure is a good idea and doing so will only help the lifespan of your new hose. You might be able to find an inexpensive white tarp or other light-colored material that can be wrapped around the hose to block the sun.
Since the existing hose is 4 years old and has developed some leaks I do not recommend trying to re-use parts of it but I do admire your waste not/want not thinking.
