When installing a light bar like the MaxxTow Off-Road Light Bar part # MT80635 on your 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 you will need to hook it up directly to the battery due to the amount of power it draws. The trailer lighting circuits on your truck would not be nearly strong enough to power the light bar. The good news is however that this light bar comes with an on/off switch so it will not be powered all the time, just when you choose to do so. There may be a way to draw power from the battery and then receive an on/off signal for the trailer lighting circuits but this would require advice from an automotive electrician.
I have attached a review video for you as well.
